Psalms for the Season

The Psalms are a collection of hymns and prayers that express the richness of human spiritual experience.  Throughout them runs an awareness of divine grace and love, and many of them simply give thanks for God’s goodness.

A handful of the Psalms express what it is to be a sinner dependent on God’s forgiveness and protection.  (Often that means protection from our own selves.)  Traditionally these “penitential Psalms” have been used as a guide for reflective prayer and confession.  This year the penitential Psalms will provide our sermon texts throughout the season of Lent.

March 10                                        Psalm 6                 “Fear of Death”

March 17                                        Psalm 31              “Taking Refuge”

March 24                                        Psalm 37              “Taking the High Road”

March 31                                        Psalm 51              “Owning Up”

April 7                                            Psalm 102            “God Holds the Keys”
