Welcome!

First Church members are people involved in seeking, sharing and showing God’s love in the world. We believe that God calls each of us to live our faith in a way that makes a difference in our own lives and the life of our community. Our goal is to help every person connect with God, with a community of believers, and with the world outside our doors.

First United Methodist Church has a rich heritage. It had its beginnings in 1811 when Methodist Circuit riders came to Phoenixville and twelve families began meeting for Bible study and mutual support and encouragement in their Christian walk. They were officially incorporated as a church in 1826. The first church building was constructed in 1829. The current church was dedicated in 1964. In 1990, First Church merged with Bethesda UMC, a church from the former Evangelical United Brethren tradition.

Today First Church continues to reach out to residents of the Phoenixville area. While we celebrate our past, we realize that the future depends on a vital Christian witness in a changing world.
