Music Ministry

Music Ministries at First Church

The music ministries of First United Methodist Church are a vital part of the worship life of the congregation.  The 25 voice SATB Chancel Choir provides music weekly for the 10:45 am service during the church year.  They rehearse weekly on Thursday evenings.  The choral library, with over 500 titles, features the works of composers Don Besig, Joseph Martin, Jack Schrader, Jay Althouse, John Ness Beck, and John Carter, to name a few.

The 17 member, 5 octave hand bell choir provides music once a month and for special holidays and celebrations.  The bell choir library contains a variety of liturgical music (of varying degrees of difficulty) for the 5 octave choir.  In addition, there are numerous selections for the 2-3 octave choir.  These talented musicians also rehearse weekly on Thursday evenings.

Children's Choirs
The Cherub Choir is for children ages 3 through Kindergarten, rehearsing on Sunday morning at 10:30 AM.

There is a Children's Choir for grades 1 through 5; and 6th through 8th graders sing in the Youth Choir.  These choirs rehearse on Thursday evenings; Elementary  at 6:00 PM and Youth at 6:30.  This group will provide a worship service every other month on the first Sunday beginning in October and also serve as the heart of the annual Christmas and spring musicals.

High School youth are invited to particpate in the Chancel Choir and the Bell Choir.

The sanctuary is equipped with a 3 manual Rogers electronic organ.  This particular instrument served as the touring organ for the late Keith Chapman, before it’s installation in our church.  It has a bright, full sound for playing the liturgy and features a brilliant trumpet stop for weddings and special occasions.  Thanks to a very generous donation, the sanctuary also has a beautiful Bosendorfer conservatory grand piano for use with the choirs, piano/organ duets and solo piano concerts.
