Whether you have received training in the past, or never have served as a mentor, the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry has a new process and we look forward to seeing you for the mentor training event on Tuesday, March 1, from 9:00-Noon at the Conference Office, 980 Madison Avenue, Norristown. We are excited to receive new training and guidance that will serve us well as we mentor candidates for ministry.

Location Change: Lansdale: First UMC (300 N Broad St, Lansdale, PA 19446)
Each year Licensed Local Pastors (PTLP and FTLP) and Certified Lay Ministers meet with the District Committee on Ministry for re-certification of their credentials. This year we will host both meetings on one day at the EPA Conference Offices.  If you are a Licensed Local Pastor of Certified Lay Minister you will receive official notification from the DCOM registrar and chair but, please SAVE THE DATE now!!

Cross Racial Cross Cultural Appointment Part Two Training
Location: To Be Determined
Do you serve in a Cross Racial or Cross Cultural Appointment? Are you a congregational leader serving with a pastor in a Cross Racial or Cross Cultural Appointment? Then this training is for you! This full day training is a continuation of our fall event facilitated again by our partners at the General Commission on Religion and Race. Save the Date Now and plan to join us!


Every four years in preparation for General Conference, the elected General – Jurisdictional Conference Delegation schedules Listening Sessions, to hear from the members of the Eastern Pennsylvania Annual Conference the concerns and understanding regarding proposed legislation coming before the General Conference for action. Please save the following dates, choose a site, and plan to attend one of these sessions. Information regarding resolutions will be published prior to these sessions in the NEWSpirit and district newsletters. Guidelines and format for the sessions will be published closer to the dates.

·         Monday, April 11 from 7 pm to 8:30 pm at Wesley UMC (2540 Center St., Bethlehem PA 18017)

·         Saturday, April 16 from 10 am to Noon at Simpson House (2101 Belmont Ave., Philadelphia PA 19131)

·         Wednesday, April 20 from 7 pm to 8:30 pm at UMC of the Good Shepherd (1500 Quentin Rd., Lebanon PA 17042)

·         And, one Call in Session on Saturday, April 23, – 9 am to 10:30 am; Call in number and instructions will be published in the NEWSpirit and District newsletters and on the epaumc.org website

February 8, Bishop’s Lenten Day Apart for All Clergy, Aldersgate UMC, 2313 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE. Keynote Speaker and Worship Service Preacher:  Bishop Young Jin Cho, Virginia Annual Conference (click here for bio). The schedule is as follows:

8:30 am – Coffee and tea, sign in by all clergy in fellowship hall (each district will have             their own sign-in table)

9:00 am – Keynote Presentation on Prayer

10:30 am – Worship Service and Communion

Bishop Johnson encourages all clergy to attend this event. Registration is not required.


Registration Open! Register now to attend the Eastern PA Conference’s 4th Annual Faith-Sharing Seminar on March 19, from 9 am to 3 pm, New Hanover UMC, 2211 Swamp Pike, Gilbertsville, PA 19525. The pre-registration deadline is March 3, and the cost is only $10 per person, which pays for materials & meals. Onsite registration and breakfast begins at 8:30 AM, followed by the seminar, with lunch provided at noon. Register online or by mail. Full payment is due with registration. Ponderings of the Heart: A Mother’s Reflections

“But Mary treasured all these words and pondered them in her heart.” (Luke 1:19)

A new Bible study curriculum for the season of Lent has been produced for use in any and all United Methodist churches, free of charge! Ponderings of the Heart: A Mother’s Reflections features seven Elders from the Southeast District of the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference. Each session takes participants through a New Testament scene in which Mary, the mother of Jesus, is present, and invites them to consider how Mary’s example of discipleship has meaning for our lives today. The study is designed to begin after Ash Wednesday and conclude in the week following Easter.

Session 2 - Luke 2:41-52, The Boy Jesus in the Temple: Sara Davis-Shappell, Spiritual Renewal Ministries

2014 Summer Vacation Bible School

YES!! VBS is JUST AROUND THE CORNER!! The dates for vacation Bible school:

JUNE 29TH through JULY 3RD 5:45 p.m.-8:30 p.m.

Our theme this year is life in the desert with Moses and is entitled WILDERNESS ESCAPE! The volunteer sign-up sheets (2!!) are UP and located on the bulletin board across the hall from the Chapel. Yes, there are two sheets this year…one for program/support people, and the other for kitchen people. THERE WILL BE A THIRD SIGN-UP FORTHCOMING for FOOD donations. Hard copies of the registration forms are available in both offices and by mail. They can also be emailed and we are working with our webmasters to enable you to register online…Stay tuned!!

Keeping in mind our new summer schedule of church at 9:30 a.m., Deborah Graver will be available to take your photo Sunday, June 1st from 10:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. If you have not had your photo taken, contact Sally Doyle at sagruberdoyle@gmail.com or call her at 610-329-2385 to get on the schedule. There will be one more opportunity to have your photo taken on Sunday, June 22nd from 8:30 a.m.-9:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. If that presents a difficulty, you can also e-mail a jpeg photo for inclusion. Our preacher for the day will be Mr. Rob Mannix, Director of Ministies to Children, Youth, and their Families at Covenant United Methodist Church. After a career in the Navy, he added this ministry to his work as an electrical engineer. He is a graduate of the Lutheran Seminary in Philadelphia.
